As of 2 April 2024, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has sold a total of 2.5 million copies, according to developers Capcom. These numbers come only 11 days after the game’s release, and represent a massive success for the series, already comprising a quarter of the combined 10 million copies sold between both Dragon’s Dogma titles.
The original Dragon’s Dogma didn’t review particularly well on release, and didn’t end up selling too well. But in the years that followed, it began to pick up some steam with more and more players picking it up, leading to its status as a bit of a cult hit.
Record-breaking
After hitting 224,000 concurrent players on Steam, Dragon’s Dogma 2 became Capcom’s biggest launch on the platform, surpassing Resident Evil 4’s numbers by more than 30%.
There were certainly worries that Dragon’s Dogma 2 would follow the same path, especially following a few snags on the game’s release such as poor performance and the game’s approach to microtransactions.
