How to give gifts to NPCs in Dragon’s Dogma 2
To give a gift in Dragon’s Dogma 2, interact with an NPC then select the Give Gift option (Square on PlayStation and X on Xbox) from those displayed on the HUD in the bottom right-hand of the screen. You’ll then see the Gift menu. Choose a gift from the items currently in your inventory and tap Confirm.
At times you won’t be able to give a gift to NPCs, typically when one is involved in an on-going quest. Additionally, gift giving is only available for named NPCs that show up in the NPC Logbook, so you won’t be able to gift an item to a random NPC in the streets of Vernworth, for example.
What items should you gift to NPCs
NPCs have preferences when it comes to receiving gifts, including favourite items that will have a bigger impact on your affinity with them. To check what you should give an NPC, bring up the Pause Menu and select History. In the NPC Logbook, scroll down to the relevant NPC and under Likes you’ll see what items they prefer.
Their Likes are classified under item types, as follows:
- Adorable items – Golden Trove Beetles
- Beautiful items – Bunch of Flowers, fruit like Apples and Grapes
- Expensive items – rare gems like Jasper or Onyx or expensive weapons and armour
- Fancy items – rings, potions, scrolls
- Interesting items – monster parts like Misshapen Eye
- Rare Items – anything rare, including monster drops and gems
Once a day is best
Note that the increase in affinity obtained from gift giving only applies once per in-game day, meaning that if you hand over multiple gifts within the same day, they won’t have any effect beyond the first gift’s affinity boost.
