Knowing how to leave a dungeon in Diablo 4 is vital knowledge for a game so stacked with them. These depthless ruins are a brilliant source of high-quality gear, XP, and offer some tough fights to test your combat skills. They’re also one of a few great ways to get gold fast in Diablo 4 if you’re running short on funds. If you’ve reached the end of a dungeon and felled the main boss, you’re likely wondering whether the only option to leave a dungeon in Diablo 4 is to painstakingly backtrack to the entrance. Fortunately, it’s not. Here’s how to leave dungeons in Diablo 4.
How to exit a dungeon in Diablo 4
There are three ways to leave dungeons in Diablo 4:
- Backtrack to the entrance.
- Open up the map and click on the dungeon entrance icon.
- Leave the dungeon by using the Action Wheel.
In all dungeons except those tied to the story, you can use the map and Action Wheel options even if you haven’t completed the dungeon and killed the main boss.
Backtrack to the dungeon entrance
The most obvious way to leave a dungeon is to make your way back to the entrance and interact with the exit. While feasible, it takes time and isn’t the most efficient way to leave, though it is perhaps a more scenic option, especially if you’ve configured your game for the best graphics settings, enabling some serious atmosphere. However, we strongly recommend not using this method.
Click on the dungeon entrance icon
The second option is to open up the map by tapping the M button on your keyboard, or the Share button on the controller, then clicking on the dungeon entrance icon to ‘Leave.’ Doing so will teleport you back to the overworld just outside of the dungeon, and save your poor character from hauling back your conglomerate mountain of must-have gear through the dungeon on foot. Make sure you know how to salvage gear in Diablo 4 too, so you don’t have to let anything go to waste.
Use the action wheel to exit the dungeon
Lastly, you can also exit a dungeon in Diablo 4 by using the Action Wheel. Tap the E key on your keyboard, or the Up button on the controller, to bring up the Action Wheel. Hover over the ‘Leave Dungeon’ option on the left of the wheel (represented by a set of cracked stairs) and click it. Like the map option, leaving a dungeon in Diablo 4 using the Action Wheel takes you back to the Sanctuary map outside the entrance.
If you leave via a Town Portal, you can return to the same spot in the dungeon via the same route.
That covers all the ways to exit a dungeon, both fast and slow. We’d recommend taking advantage of the fast travel options available if you want to prioritise your time with more spelunking, quests, and boss battling – like your fight against The Butcher.
