Wondering how to get Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4? Then you’re in luck, we’ll go through this in detail. This new in-game currency Blizzard is introducing will be your key to playing a game of chance for some fantastic rewards.

Murmuring Obols are the major currency in Diablo 4, replacing Diablo 3’s Blood Shards, and can be used to purchase legendary gear, armor and more at the Purveyor of Curiosities. As we explain shortly, you’ll get these from completing World Events or by opening Murmuring Caches. You can also use them to buy Diablo 4 Whispering Keys which can be used to open Silent Chests, which are randomly spawned on the map.

We’ve played through Diablo 4 extensively, giving it top marks in our Diablo 4 review, so you we can give you the best possible information you can trust. In this guide we’ll walk you through how to get Murmuring Obols, and what you can spend them on in Diablo 4.

How to get Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4

In Diablo 4, there’s currently only one guaranteed way to get Murmuring Obols, and that is to complete World Events. These are random events that involve taking down waves of enemies for a short period of time, usually a few minutes. While you’ll receive 20 Murmuring Obols for completing a World Event in Diablo 4, we recommend tackling the Mastery requirement, which will give you a total of 35 Murmuring Obols. They’re also one of a few great ways to get gold fast in the game.

World Events pop up fairly regularly as you’re out exploring Sanctuary. They appear on the map as an orange triangle with three dots. As you get nearer, the triangle turns into an orange circle, denoting the area in which the event takes place. To start a World event, step into the orange ring. An on-screen message will confirm that the event has started.

You can then spend Murmuring Obols to gamble for loot at Curiosity Vendors dotted around Sanctuary. A good place to start is to visit Lizveth, the Purveyor of Curiosities, located in southeast Kyovashad, south of the Blacksmith and southeast of the Kyovashad Waypoint. To find out how many Obols you’ve got, you’re going to need to head to the ‘Materials and Stats’ tab in the menu.
