With the Counter Strike 2 release date prediction approaching later this year, there are more than a few fans looking for details on everything that’s known about the game.
Here, we’ll go over what we know about the game’s release date, early gameplay details, and improvements such as the Counter Strike 2 tick rate changes as we countdown towards launch. Based on a recent tweet from the official Counter-Strike Twitter account, though, it seems the follow-up’s release may be closer than we think.
Counter Strike 2 release date prediction
Counter Strike 2 is seemingly set to release on September 27, 2023. While Valve hasn’t confirmed this yet, an official tweet from the CS Twitter account is teasing something big for this date, so it may just end up being the launch of the highly anticipated sequel. If you needed any more confirmation – on September 27th they changed their X header to the internet’s favourite countdown signifier image: Dawn of The Final Day.
It’s becoming increasingly likely that something big is going to happen today, so make sure that you you stay up-to-date with our page for the latest updates on the increasingly likely Counter Strike 2 release date reveal.
For those curious if Counter Strike 2 is free-to-play, we have an article breaking down what we know.
Counter Strike 2 limited test
Valve is running a limited test for the game right now, but players need to be selected by the developers to gain access. They cite a few key details that they look for in applications, including recent playtime on Valve official servers, trust factor, and Steam account standing.
Though speculation is also running high for the possibility of an open beta, Valve has yet to make any announcement on whether this will happen.
Counter Strike 2 gameplay features and trailers
We’ve seen a lot of content previews for Counter Strike 2 through trailers and gameplay features, giving us a good idea of what we might expect from the game. Three in particular stand out, all focusing on gameplay changes and upgrades that’ll set CS2 apart from CS:GO
The first of these is a trailer for the new Counter Strike 2 smoke changes. We’ve got a piece breaking down these changes and further commentary from the developers too. The short of it though is that smoke grenades will be more dynamic and their smoke explosions more reactive to the environment and events in-game.
Second is a look at some of the map changes and upgrades. It looks like Counter Strike 2 is giving Mirage a makeover, alongside Nuke, Overpass, Aztec, and all the other classics in the game. The team has broken down map updates into three categories to explain the changes:
- Touchstone maps. These are the maps from CS:GO that will be ported in unchanged, with the exception of minor graphical, gunfire, texture, and lighting improvements.
- Upgrade maps. These maps will receive major graphical updates, including new realistic materials, lighting, and reflections.
- Overhaul maps. These maps are being rebuilt from the ground up using new tools and software and will be the likely candidates for seeing some limited design changes alongside their new looks.
Thirdly, we got a look at the dev team’s plans to “move beyond the tick rate”, leaving behind the current tick rate system that the game relies on and introducing sub-tick updates, which will allow server responses to player inputs to be instantaneous. This is going to mean gunplay gets smoother and more reliable in CS2, something a lot of people will be happy to see.
Counter Strike 2 skins
Players will be relieved to hear that Valve has confirmed skins from CS:GO will carry over into the sequel, so you won’t need to worry about losing everything in your inventory come release. The dev team has also confirmed that all skins in-game will benefit from the new graphical and lighting upgrades coming to the game.
That’s everything we know so far about the Counter Strike 2 release date window, its platforms for release, and its major gameplay changes. Counter Strike: Global Offensive stands as one of the longest-running and most successful games of its franchise. As such, anticipation for the sequel is running as high as that for the Ark 2 release date or the Spider-Man 2 release date – arguably higher. As we close in on its launch, we’ll make sure to keep you up to date with everything you need to know about Counter Strike 2.
CS2 platforms
Counter Strike 2 will be coming to PC on Steam, just like its predecessor. It will be available as a free upgrade to owners of CS:GO. If you’re wondering about the potential of Counter Strike 2 coming to console, we’ve got some insight on that for you already.
However, you might also be wondering whether CS2 could feature on PS5, Xbox Series X, and the Steam Deck. Fear not, as we have you covered there too.
