Spirits form a major part of your combat arsenal in Black Myth Wukong, granting strong actives and interesting passive bonuses that can turn the tide of battle. For the most part, you want spirits that complement your build or offer ways to counter specific enemies. We’ll give you a list of the five best spirits in Black Myth Wukong.

For the most part, the spirits we recommend make our list because they offer strong passive abilities or for their very strong active skill. Typically, you’ll find that we like stagger in various forms and CC as these are often very good tools to beat very difficult bosses, elites, or pack fights when you’re out exploring the world.

The Wandering Wight has one of the strongest low-level damage spikes. Image via VideoGamer

Wandering Wight

  • Location – From the Outside the Forest shrine, travel along the path, cross the bridge, then turn right to find the boss.
  • Active – Ram your Wight form’s head into the ground, dealing massive damage in an area.
  • Passive – Considerably increases Defense.

For players wanting to get a very strong powerful hit, the Wandering Wight is your option. You can find the Spirit in the Outside the Forest Keeper’s Shrine and take a right when you cross the bridge to find a boss you’ll need to defeat to get the spirit. When the spirit is activated it stuns foes and deals a large amount of damage in an area. It’s best used on slow-moving bosses or packs of enemies that want to swarm you.

The only downside is that the attack windup is rather slow. If you’re against a boss who loves jumping about or can dodge attacks, then you’re in trouble. Examples of this include the Black Mountain King and the White Clad Noble. Conversely, beefier bosses with long attack windups are very easy to hit. There are pros and cons to using this Spirit, so it is a matter of studying your enemy to know how to not waste your Qi.

If you like poison damage builds, Guangmou is a game changer. Image via VideoGamer

Guangmou

  • Location – From the Snake Trail shrine, travel down the hill, cross into the snake graveyard swamp area, and then in the well-lit cove path. The boss spawns inside.
  • Active – Call forth snakes that inflict poison damage to targets in the area. The snakes disappear once their venom depletes.
  • Passive – Moderately increases Poison damage and Poison resistance.

Guangmou is another solid early option as you get it from an unskippable boss in Chapter 1. Using this without upgrades is very weak, but investing in the spell to upgrade it turns quickly makes it a core part of any kit due to the massive poison damage it can churn out. You’ll largely be using this to cheese bosses with a lot of ramping DoT (damage over time).

The only downside is that the spirit is not great against a lot of enemies in a small, confined space. The poison damage can also be countered by bosses that have invulnerability phases, for example, the Chapter 1 secret boss’ intermission phase you fight after ringing the bells. The Tiger Vanguard also has an immunity phase.

✓ Tip

Typically, these invulnerability or immunity phases are around 50% HP or less. So, You’ll still be able to safely use it against the bosses at the start of fights.

Earth Wolf easily staggers all enemies. Image via VideoGamer

Earth Wolf

  • Location – Head inside the Village Entrance Wayshrine in Chapter 2. Go to the centre of the village near all of the archers. Turn left and cross the gate to a large open space. The Wolf lurks around the grounds.
  • Active – Turns you into an Earth Wolf that charges in a straight line towards the target and tramples them dealing damage. It drags the opponent along and staggers them too.
  • Passive – Grants a small amount of Focus on hit.

Earth Wolf is a charge skill that deals both initial impact damage and minor drag damage. The closer the enemy is at the start of the charge, the more damage they take. The Spirit will always scoop bosses and any other type of enemy regardless of their hit box. At the end of the charge, the enemies are often heavily staggered. You can easily pull off a full light combo against the target. Pair it up with an Immobilize spell, and that’s two full free combos. It’s very strong for Focus-building playstyle, or those wanting to cheese annoying bosses.

Gore Eye is one of the only spirits that give players mana as a passive. Image via VideoGamer.

Gore Eye Daoist

  • Location – Unlock the metal door next to the Rat King boss arena in the Village. Follow the hill down, cross the bridge, and the boss is further along that path. You will need to unlock the door with the Sterness of Stone and Keenness of Tiger.
  • Active – Places a staff on the ground that buffs your staff’s damage in an area around it. The buff lasts for howwever long the staff remains active.
  • Passive – Moderately increases mana.

If you’re playing mage builds, consider the Gore Eye Doist. You can find it at the end of Chapter 2 by opening the large metal door near the Rat King boss room. Follow the path down, go over the bridge, and you’ll find the elite boss along the path.

The notable thing about this Spirit is that its passive grants a mana increase. There’s a limited amount of mana you can get in the game, so this is a rare extra source. The other benefit is that the Spirit gives you some added damage on your stave attacks. It’s great combined with Immobilize spell to get more combos and damage out.

If you want a safe, long rage ability that staggers, look no further than the Red-haired Yaksha. Image via VideoGamer

Red-Haired Yaksha

  • Location – Go to the Precept Corridor shrine and run up the stairs. You’ll find the Spirit boss in the temple corridor lined with Buddha statues.
  • Active – Performs a ranged attack that heavily staggers the target.
  • Passive – Increases heavy attack damage.

Of all the Chapter 3 bosses, the one that stands out the most is the Red Haired Yaksha, which you can find inthe Buddha statue hallway in the temple area of Chapter 3. Go to the Bitter Lake and then to the Precept Corridor Keeper’s Shrine to find it.

Using this Spirit gives players a powerful ranged attack that deals respectable damage but extremely strong ranged stagger. The key to this spirit is that the ranged attack guarantees you stagger enemies during any telegraphed attacks, especially bosses. Using this to stagger charges and large attack wind-ups is superb for countering hard bosses. In a sense, it’s less risky than the Earth Wolf, but you don’t get as much value as you would. There are pros and cons, but overall, Red-Haired Yaksha is a very safe ranged stagger move that’s worth using.
