Black Myth: Wukong has a ton of action to offer and it can get your adrenaline pumping very early on in the game. The Wandering Wight is the first optional boss in Black Myth Wukong that you may find a bit challenging, especially since you can encounter it near the start of your journey.

Though the boss isn’t one to take lightly, besting it in combat is far from impossible. Here, we’ll be going over some tips on how to win this fight so that you can continue your adventure.

Wukong maintaining distance to avoid Wandering Wight's clap attack

How to defeat the Wandering Wight

This boss has a diverse set of potentially devastating moves that are mostly slow and easy to dodge. Keeping your distance then popping into range for a few quick hits during the gaps in the Wandering Wight’s attacks is an effective way of dealing with the enemy. You’re also going to want to use Immobilize a lot to disrupt its attacks and keep your own offence flowing. Here’s a rundown of how to deal with the moves.

Hand swipes

The boss will wind up and swing wildly with its hands. This attack covers a wide area but doesn’t have much range on it. It is easily avoided by jumping back, and you can get into range for a quick counterattack if you don’t see the enemy wind up for a follow-up.

Foot stomps

When the boss stomps the ground for an attack, it usually does more than one at a time. However, the first stomp it does has a slow start-up making it easy to avoid or interrupt by launching an attack of your own.

Running attacks

Wandering Wight has a couple of attacks where it will run forward and either smash the ground with its hands, or clap its hands to create a shockwave after landing. These attacks are more difficult to avoid when up close so remember to put a bit of distance between you and the boss while waiting for an opening.

Head slam

The boss has another attack where it will slam its face into the ground. It only affects the area directly in front of it, but it comes out fast and hits hard. This is one of the more difficult moves to react to, so try to maintain your distance to avoid it. Using this attack will leave the boss dazed for a brief period, giving you some time to heal up and get back into position.

Leap

If you stay too far back after engaging the boss, it will leap towards you to close the distance. When it lands, watch out for some hand swipes, a head slam, or a combination of these attacks.

Energy blast

Wandering Wight charges up energy with its hands and then launches it forward. This is the boss’s longest-reaching attack so remember to dodge to the side when trying to avoid it.

The boss can use a series of these moves in succession so you’re going to have to be patient before launching a counterattack during this fight. You can maximize your offence by hitting the boss with Immobilize, giving you more time to attack your opponent. Hit Wandering Wight enough times and it’ll begin to cower in pain or fall over, providing even more time for you to whittle down its HP.

Boss location

You can find the boss in the Forest of Wolves, just a short distance away from the Outside the Forest waypoint. You’ll encounter a few enemies along the way, but nothing that should be too much of a problem. Wandering Wight is found lumbering around the forest after crossing a small wooden bridge that goes over a creek.

And that’s our guide on how to beat the Wandering Wight. After defeating the boss, you may want to check out how to deal with the “Cannot absorb spirits without guidance” message that’s likely to show up after taking this enemy down early on in your playthrough.
