Scattered across the Black Wind Mountain in Black Myth Wukong’s Chapter 1 are three hidden bells that when rung unlock access to a secret, entirely optional area called the Ancient Guanyin Temple and a new boss dubbed Elder Jinchi. The Keeper of the Mountain wards you off ringing them, but ignore his advice. Beating Elder Jinchi Upon gets you the Fireproof Mantle, a useful Vessel that offers Focus and fire resistance. Here’s where to find al three bells.
There are three bells that need ringing in Chapter 1. They are spread out across the Black Wind Mountain area. They are located next to bosses or hidden away down small detour paths you need to follow to reach them:
- Forest of Wolves – Outside the Forest
- Bamboo Grove – Snake Trail
- Bamboo Grove – Marsh of White Mists
Forest of Wolves – Outside the Forest Bell location
From the Forest of Wolves – Outside the Forest Wayshrine you need to do the following:
- Travel along the path towards the two wolf enemies.
- Press on to the wolf guarding a bridge.
- Cross over the bridge and go round to the other side of the boulder.
- You should now see fires in the distance leading to a temple gate.
- Go through the gate and defeat the optional boss Guangzhi.
- The bell is located behind the boss.
Note that the boss is fairly difficult. It’s very agile and dishes burning damage. Be mindful of its jump attacks and combos. Consider coming back to this boss near the end of the chapter as you’ll get the Cloudy Step Spirit, which will help you bait some of its attack combos to your clone.
Bamboo Grove – Snake Trail Bell location
Once you progress through the Outside the Forest, you should come across a Wayshrine called Snake Trail. Here is where you’ll find the next bell:
- Go up the stairs and past the snake guard.
- To the right of the snake guard is an old man NPC you need to talk to if you have not done so already.
- Travel down the winding hill roads, fighting the snake enemies that spawn.
- At the bottom of the winding hill is a large bamboo forest.
- Follow the lights towards a clearing where you’ll need to fight a boss.
- Once the boss is dead, you’ll find a path on the left side of the arena.
- Take the path up to reach the bell
You can jump down from the bridge to avoid fighting some of the snake enemies on the hill.
Bamboo Grove – Marsh of White Mists Bell location
The White Mists is the final area you need to visit. From the White Mists Wayshrine, you need to do the following:
- Go down the hill and defend the monkey.
- Unlock the monkey vendor who upgrades your Gourd.
- Travel down the hill towards the water.
- Defeat the White Claw Noble boss.
- Take the left pathway, where the boss once stood that leads into a new area.
- At the back of the path is the final bell location.
The White Claw Noble is arguably the first truly challenging boss you’ll come across. This boss will take some time to beat as it has a lot of combos, ranged attacks, and even dodges of its own. Read more on our White Claw Noble boss guide to get some ideas on strategies to beat it.
Ancient Guanyin Temple and Elder Jinchi boss fight
Once you’ve rung all three bells, you will be transported to the secret Ancient Guanyin Temple area. It There, you need to beat a secret boss called Elder Jinchi. He plays similarly to the Wandering Wight boss in the Outside the Forest area.
The main thing to note is that there are worshippers that wander the area. The boss can gather souls to produce long-range magical attacks. When you get the boss to 50% HP, he will transition to an intermission phase. Here, he will become immune to damage. More followers will appear, and they’ll try to give him their souls. Depending on how many souls he gets he’ll heal up. Kill as many as you can in this phase.
Once the Intermission phase ends, he’ll be slightly empowered, using a floor slam attack and large AoE explosions every few seconds. This phase requires dodging the explosions and standing far back. It’s not even worth trying to hit him for fear of losing massive chunks of health. Simply avoid the big heavy-hitting attacks and trade blows when you can.
Once you defeat the boss, you’ll unlock the Fireproof Mantle vessel. It grants you a special power that makes you immune to fire damage. This will come in handy for the end of Chapter 1 when you fight bosses that deal fire damage. You’ll also get an achievement for completing the secret area.
