You won’t survive very long without fire, so knowing how to light a campfire in ARK Survival Ascended is one of the first things you need to learn as a new survivor. As well as providing you with heat in the cold nights, you’ll want to cook your meat so you don’t lose health while staving off hunger. How to craft a campfire in ARK Survival Ascended

Before you can build a campfire, you’ll need to unlock the Engram for it. Once that’s unlocked, you’ll next need to gather the resources needed to craft a campfire. This is:

• Flint x1
• Stone x16
• Thatch x12
• Wood x2

Once you’ve gathered all these resources, open up your crafting window and double-click on the campfire to begin crafting it. Wait a few seconds, and the campfire will appear in your inventory. From here, double-click it again to add it to your action bar at the bottom of your screen, select it, and place it down anywhere you like.

How to light a campfire in ARK Survival Ascended

Once you’ve built your campfire, we can now light it. If you don’t have any in your inventory, go and gather some wood. The best way to do this is by cutting down nearby trees with a hatch or pickaxe. Once you’ve gathered the wood from a couple of trees, head back to your campfire. Hovering over the campfire, you’ll see a ‘Press E to Access Inventory’ message. Press E on the campfire to open the inventory.

If you only want a quick fire, you don’t need too much wood. But if you want it to last you need to have plenty of wood to keep it burning as once your campfire runs out of wood it will go out.

In this menu, you’ll see your inventory on the left, and the campfire’s inventory on the right. Find the wood you just gathered, and drag and drop it into the empty slots in the campfire’s inventory. Once there’s wood in the campfire, an option that reads ‘Light Fire’ will appear at the bottom of your screen. Simply click that and the fire will be lit. Other items such as Sparkpowder or Anglergel can also work instead of wood, simply use your fuel of choice.

Campfires will only last as long as there is wood left in its inventory. Once the wood runs out, the fire will go out and you’ll need to go and collect some more. While at the start, you’ll mostly be using this to get cooked meat, later on you’ll be able to create more varied structures like a cooking pot, allowing you to make new recipes and create things such as dye. It’s no industrial grill, but it’ll do for now.
