The MP5 is back and as powerful as ever in Modern Warfare 2. But, it’s going by a new name. The Lachmann Sub is the same MP5 we all know and love. The MP5 is a very strong contender for the current most powerful weapon in Modern Warfare 2. Be warned though, Infinity Ward has made some changes to the Lachmann Sub since the first MW2 beta, ultimately reducing its damage. But still it is one of the most potent weapons you can use right out of the box and is a legendary weapon both inside and outside of Call of Duty.
The Lachmann Sub MP5 is a mobile and highly accurate submachine gun in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that serves as an unlockable variant of the Lachmann-762 Assault Rifle. This SMG lacks range but makes up for this drawback with its significantly high Fire Rate, Recoil Control, Mobility, and Handling. These gunsmith stats make it nearly impossible to miss a target when firing at close range. The Lachmann Sub MP5 can also perform moderately well at medium ranges but drops off in long-range combat.

Lachmann Sub Overview
Call of Duty gamers love the MP5, the 9mm submachine gun that’s synonymous with current-day FPS games everywhere. The modern era mainstay is back in MW2, even though it has a different name in this Call of Duty game. It’s called the Lachmann Sub in MW2, which is a part of the Lachmann weapon platform in the sometimes-confusing Gunsmith in the game.
The MP5 is the better-known name for the Lachmann Sub, an exceptional SMG in Modern Warfare 2. However, it took a bit of effort to unlock during the first Modern Warfare 2 beta weekend, as the Lachmann Sub/MP5 was stuck behind a glitch. To gain access to Modern Warfare 2’s version of the MP5, you need to jump through some hoops to trigger a glitch that unlocks the Lachmann 556 assault rifle, which you can then level up to earn the Lachmann Sub.
Design
The design of the Lachmann-sub MP5 is based on the real-life Heckler & Koch mp5. The Heckler & Koch MP5 (German: Maschinenpistole 5) is a 9x19mm Parabellum submachine gun, developed in the 1960s by a team of engineers from the German small arms manufacturer Heckler & Koch. There are over 100 variants and clones of the MP5, including some semi-automatic versions.
Lachmann Sub MP5’s Stats
The Lachmann Sub is a superb SMG in Modern Warfare 2 and is more often known as the MP5. The Lachmann Sub/MP5 was glitched and required some work to unlock during the first Modern Warfare 2 testing weekend. In Modern Warfare 2, you must pass through a series of hoops in order to activate a glitch that unlocks the Lachmann 556 assault weapon, which you can then level up to obtain the Lachmann Sub.
Fire Rate
The Lachmann Sub provides a supreme rate of fire allowing players to exploit its exclusive run and gun close-quarter engagement opportunities. The MP5 basically sets the stage for ideal evasive action and maneuvers around tight spots, corners, and compact sections of the various core 6v6 and battle maps. Paired with its decent damage output, the Lachmann Sub makes or breaks CQB in tight spaces and was a serious contender for Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer’s Open Beta.
Damage
The Lachmann Sub MP5 features a decent damage output. Paired with its incredible rate of fire, the Lachmann Sub provides one of the highest damage outputs per second in medium to close range encounters, putting regular assault rifles and sniper builds to their knees, which is what your main role is. The high damage output in conjunction with the fire rate makes the Lachmann Sub MP5 ideal for CQB encounters.
Accuracy
The Lachman-sub is decently accurate and works best in open areas of core 6v6 maps for quick, medium-range firefights. When using sights, accuracy is fairly good for nailing shots, but when hip-firing or moving, accuracy suffers greatly.
Recoil Control
Its poor recoil control might be one of the Lachmann sub’s major flaws. The Lachman-sub’s terrible recoil and spray patterns have a significant negative impact on accuracy, especially when players attempt to hip-fire in smaller areas of the maps. It’s generally hit or miss. To get the most out of the Lachman-sub while reducing recoil and increasing accuracy, make sure you’re steadily positioned and crouching in the correct posture.
Mobility
Users have commendable levels of mobility when using the Lachman-sub as their primary weapon. Players can easily transit lanes and routes and even relocate to flank routes with the Lachman-sub at their disposal. However, keep in mind that there are better options available when it comes to flanking strategies and swift lane switches.
Handling
When moving fast or hiding behind cover, especially when opposing operators are on your tail, the Lachman-sub gives acceptable levels of movement across the board, decreasing the levels of camera and crosshair wobble. The Lachman-556 performs admirably in terms of handling while being undervalued.
Range
The Lachmann Sub MP5 can operate in a variety of ranges, but it’s excellent for getting up close and personal with enemy operators. Equip the Lachmann Sub with the idea in mind that you’ll be going toe to toe with enemy operators in the close to medium range sight lines. That’s where the high damage output complimented with the high fire rate of the Lachmann Sub tends to shine.
Close Range
Lachmann sub’s stats make it nearly impossible to miss a target when firing at close range.
Medium Range
The Lachmann Sub MP5 can also perform moderately well at medium ranges.
Long Range
Lachman-sub drops off in long-range combat.
Lachmann Meer Weapons Platform
The Lachmann Sub is part of the Lachmann Meer platform. Weapons are now separated into “platforms,” and each platform starts with one gun. When you customize that specific gun in Gunsmith, you will notice a new attachment known as a “Receiver”.
The receiver essentially acts as the “base” of your weapon build. And this is the key change to the weapon unlocks in Modern Warfare II.
Unlocking The Lachmann-Sub MP5
This is how players can unlock the Lachmann Sub in Modern Warfare 2: There are actually two ways to unlock the Lachmann Sub. Option 1 is to rank up the Lachmann-762 and then the Lachmann-sub MP5. Option 2 is through a much quicker exploit.
Read:
Option 1
In order to unlock the MP5 in Modern Warfare 2, you’ll need to go through a few steps:
- Increase your progression rank to 16. At rank 16, you’ll unlock the Lachmann-762 Battle Rifle.
- Use the Lachmann-sub MP5 until you reach rank 13 with the weapon, which will unlock the LM-16 Receiver.
- In the Gunsmith, equip the LM-16 Receiver to the Lachmann-762 Battle Rifle, which will allow you to use it as the Lachmann-sub MP5 Assault Rifle.
- Rank up the Lachmann-sub MP5 to rank 12 and unlock the Lach-9 Receiver.
- Finally, swap out the Lachmann-sub MP5’s receiver for the Lach-9, at which point you’ll be able to use it as the Lachmann-Sub MP5.
Now that you have the Lachmann-Sub MP5, you’ll be able to see the incredible impact it has on Modern Warfare 2 matches for yourself.
Option 2
This option is an exploit and is quicker than the intended method of unlocking the Lachmann Sub.
- Create a Custom Loadout with the Expedite 12 Shotgun in the primary slot.
- Equip any perks package with the Overkill perk. The game will automatically equip the Lachmann-sub MP5 Assault Rifle in the secondary slot, even if it isn’t unlocked.
- Level the Lachman-556 up through level 11 to unlock the Lachmann Sub.
Lachmann-Sub MP5 Blueprints
Currently, no blueprints are available for the Lachmann-sub mp5, which will be listed once the game officially launches.
Attachments
After selecting a receiver, you will have five attachment slots available for your MP5. The attachments listed below make the Lachmann Sub MP5 much easier to control by managing the sharp recoil that’s common across many Modern Warfare 2 weapons. They do, however, increase bullet velocity and damage range, cementing the MP5 as one of the best guns in Modern Warfare 2.
The Lachman-sub boasts a tremendous number of attachments due to cross-support across the Lachmann Meer Platform. Players can swap out optics, under barrels, grips, magazines, and barrels for the Lachmann platform of weapons to mix and match and create the ultimate Lachmann-sub MP5 setup.

Go-to Perks And Equipment For The Lachmann-Sub MP5 Class
If you’re trying to get to grips with the MW2 beta, movement and speed will be your go-to fundamentals to build upon, meaning that your best MW2 Lachmann Sub MP5 class perks and secondary should be tailored towards movement. For this, a pistol like the X13 will be best, while a Flash Grenade, Semtex, and Double Time in your Perk 1 slot will be key. Scavenger is also a nice addition to Perk 1.
Then, it’s all about regeneration and staying alive. Perk 2 should be Quick Fix because that health boost is paramount for chaining kills, while Ghost makes the most sense in Perk 3, albeit the new perks system only unlocks this in the late game. For now, Dead Silence is locked, for now, so a Portable Radar might make up for the Modern Warfare 2 minimap mishaps.
Alternatives
The MP5 is perfect for short-to-medium-range combat, so your secondary weapon should complement that by offering a long-range option. We recommend using either the FTAC Recon or Signal 50, depending on whether you want to maintain that speed at a long range.
The FTAC is a semi-auto battle rifle that is incredibly powerful and useful for quickly snapping towards targets without needing much setup. The Signal 50 is a 50-caliber sniper rifle, making it slower than the FTAC unless you’re a quick scoping wizard, but also more powerful. If you want those one-shot kills, the Signal 50 is the weapon for you.
