On March 16, 2023 Microsoft announced their new AI Copilot. In the same announcement they announced that Copilot was not only a new AI but that it would be an AI integrated into Microsoft 365 on two levels.
One level was Business Chat which collates your data across Microsoft 365 to help keep you and your team updated. The other is systematic integration into existing Microsoft 365 apps. This includes Teams, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.

Can you access Microsoft 365 Copilot?
In short, not yet.
Microsoft have only released access to Copilot for twenty lucky testers. However, Microsoft plan to expand that number ‘in the coming months.’
For now, that’s the clearest time line that we have, but Microsoft have promised to keep IT admins up to date on any new controls to allow for smooth roll out within larger businesses.
In the same announcement, Microsoft also promised that we would see more information regarding pricing and details, again ‘in the coming months.’ So any information we need about specific access requirements for Copilot (in addition to a Microsoft 365 subscription) will be coming some time soon.

In the meantime, Microsoft recommend preparing for the roll out by signing up for Microsoft 365. This is a good idea for any eager Copilot users as it will allow you to be familiar with the software before the addition of Copilot to the mix, meaning you can get the most out of the additional support provided by the AI right from the very start.
However, users should note that Microsoft 365 is a paid service starting at £5.99/month for the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, which may affect access for some users.
