Wuthering Waves is the new big gacha game on the market following in the footsteps of Genshin Impact. It has only been fully released for less than two months, and already it has gained a huge fanbase. Right now it is only on PC and mobile, and Wuthering Waves has achieved a “major milestone” in less than two months since its full release.
There is a lot to anticipate for the future of WuWa. A leak suggests the game is set to receive a big upgrade Genshin Impact fans have wanted for years, meanwhile, a massive announcement suggests a PlayStation release is possibly close. Players also have the arrival of Zhezhi and Xiangli Yao as playable characters for update 1.2, and leaks have shown their “beautiful” gameplay animations and skills.
The game is still very new, but it has already become a massive financial hit. The Wuthering Waves fanbase is growing, and the game has already surpassed $100 million.
Wuthering Waves surpasses $100 million
Per Pocketgamer, Wuthering Waves has surpassed $100 million since its full release. The game fully came out on May 22nd, and this achievement was reported on July 16th.
This “major milestone” comes courtesy of AppMagic, and it is only mobile revenue across iOS and the Google Play store, meaning PC isn’t taken into consideration.
It’s reported that WuWa received 7.4 million downloads on mobile between May 22nd and May 31st, and it’s reported that the total downloads from Apple and Google Play combined is 11.5 million. In addition, it’s claimed that 23% of the total downloads “come from players in China, 14% from the US, and 7% from Japan”.
As for where the most revenue stems from, Japan accounts for 23% of the game’s mobile earnings, China 22%, South Korea 17%, and 17% from the US, too.
Lastly, it’s reported that Wuthering Waves was the “third-biggest gacha title” on the revenue side in June, behind only Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact, both from Hoyoverse. WuWa reportedly “generated $59.9 million in June alone,” and there were spikes following the release of banners.
The game earned $5.5 million on mobile on June 6th, coinciding with the release of Yinlin, and it also earned $4.4 million on June 28th thanks to the release of Jinshi.
Again, these revenue figures are for mobile only. The game is also on PC via the Epic Games store, and Kuro has confirmed that PS4 and PS5 builds are in-development. The game is already off to a terrific start, and an eventual release on console is only going to make it much bigger.
