Blizzard has officially confirmed the release date of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic for September 26.

Just last week, the studio accidentally let slip the date when it published a promotional image slightly earlier than intended. However, now we’ve got the proper declaration of the date alongside a short trailer to make everything official. Players with an active subscription will be able to jump right in at no additional cost when the expansion launches at 11pm UK time on all World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic realms.

To get you up to speed, WoTLK is a remastered recreation of the 2008 expansion to World of Warcraft. As well as a full storyline featuring the iconic Warcraft villain, the expansion introduced the continent of Northrend. It was the largest land mass added to the game at the time, explorable by Horde and Alliance players alike. The expansion also adds the Death Knight hero class from level 55, and added achievements for the first time. Elsewhere, there’s thirteen additional classic dungeons for parties to take on, and 9 raids too for the ultimate challenge.

Before the expansion launches, players will get a boost in XP by 50% thanks to an event running on the Classic servers from now until September. Players will also have the opportunity to create one Death Knight per Classic realm to prep for the new content. They can then bring that Death Knight to level 70 via Burning Crusade Classic content up until Lich King‘s release.

In the meantime, check out the World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic trailer for yourself down below. The expansion launches on September 26 on PC, while the modern World of Warcraft game will get its own new Dragonflight expansion later this year.
