Blizzard has quietly revealed the release date of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic, a recreation of the game’s celebrated second expansion.

An image on the Blizzard site contained, which the studio has since removed, let slip the details. Apparently, the game will be out on September 26th, later this year.

Speaking about the game at the time of its announcement, Blizzard president Mike Ybarra said:

“We’re thrilled to revisit one of the most beloved eras in Warcraft history with Wrath of the Lich King Classic. The original release of this expansion brought many improvements to the game, along with a timeless villain and an epic story.

“We’re taking care to preserve the authentic Classic experience for those looking to relive their glory days in Northrend—and deliver a worthy and accessible re-creation for those embarking on this vast adventure for the first time.”

So there you have it. According to this accidental slip, you only have to wait until September 26th to play the game. The expansion went down very well with critics, when it came out. Because of it’s design and polish. And also because it let you play as something called a Death Knight.

In VideoGamer’s review of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, Iain McCafferty said:

“With its spectacular design, dazzling polish and ever-compulsive gameplay, World of Warcraft seems destined to remain the everyman’s pick of PvE-focussed MMO for the foreseeable future.”
