The current Helldivers 2 Major Order is an odd one, for the first time, players will be rewarded for failure, which isn’t often seen in war. Players have been tasked with eradicating 1.5 billion Automatons and Terminids from the galaxy. If they win, then there doesn’t seem to be any reward except some Medals. However, if they lose, the community will be granted the elusive Anti-Tank Mines that Arrowhead Game Studios has been trying to give away since April 2024.
However, players have been trying their hardest not to unlock the Anti-Tank Mines, instead opting for every other reward on offer, including the Airburst Rocket Launcher and saving the children. Now it looks like players are going to do everything they can to win this Major Order, despite recently being unable to eradicate just 1 billion Terminids.
U/trungbrother1 took to the Helldivers 2 sub-Reddit to hype up the community by saying that we must “win this Order or they will curse us with Mines.”
Other members of the community took to the replies to react to the latest Major Order, with U/Motoman514 saying”I love that they are leaning into the meme and threatening us with the Mines.”
U/classicalySarcastic replied with some sympathy for the Helldivers 2 developers saying “To be fair, some poor Arrowhead developer worked hard on those mines only to see us reject them three times.” While U/bodyrollin has been waiting for the Stratagem to finally be released saying “I get the meme, but I have unironically wanted these mines since they were offered in place of the airburst that literally no one uses. Mines are much better than people give them credit for, and mines that could kill Hulks chasing me would be just lovely.”
While U/KeyboardResidue thinks they will be a great addition to deal with larger, but slower, enemies saying “Ima be honest. I actually have wanted these mines for a while. Probably be larger with fewer of them minimizing friendly fire. Striders, Tanks, Armored Bile Spewers, all pretty slow but horrifying in number. A deployable field of AT sounds sweet.”
Finally, U/SomeMoodyGuy believes that the high target could be to gauge player interest in Helldivers 2 and whether player engagement is still high enough to accomplish such feats. “1.5 billions enemies in roughly 4 days and we’re going into the weekend. I can’t tell if this is deceptively easy or is them trying to gauge player engagement. On one hand, us clearing it means there’s enough players in the very least active enough to get the kills required within the time limit and future MOs can be planned around that. On the other, if we fail, we’re getting the AT Mines. I personally always wanted them (glad we saved the kids though), but to build off the other point, if we don’t make it then that means we currently don’t have enough active helldivers even during the weekend to reach this goal and thus they need to potentially rethink future plans/goals.”
With just over two days to go and only 24% of the target amount of enemies being exterminated, it seems unlikely that we will be successful with this Major Order. It looks like the Anti-Tank Mines will soon be part of our inventory, which could be a good thing and we could see them become part of the meta in the future.
