Any time I don’t manage to take out an Automaton before it sends a signal into the sky I feel disappointed in myself because I know what is coming next. Especially in the higher difficulty levels, this means multiple Dropships full of various enemies are about to land around me and it is time to sweat. Thankfully, you can shoot down the Dropships before they release the enemies. But, in true Helldivers 2 fashion, that usually doesn’t make a difference as enemies tend to survive the impact and walk away like nothing has happened.
U/_M_I_W_A_S_ took to Helldivers 2 sub-Reddit to discuss the Dropships that can be found in the Automaton missions saying “When I shoot down one of these, everything inside it should die.”
This is something that many Helldivers 2 players have wanted for a long time, and it does make sense. While this could make the game easier due to not having to deal with patrols, at harder difficulties they send 4-6 Dropships at once. Plus, there are still plenty of patrols, Fabricators, and secondary objectives that are full of bots to deal with.
U/No_Importance_7016 also noted one of the frustrating aspects of shooting down the Dropships saying “The worst thing about these is, you spend a rocket on one, it crashes, none of its payload dies, the wreckage blocks the way, and whatever in it shoot you through the wreckage and you can’t shoot back.” While U/Ribba23 also pointed out the inconsistencies with shooting them down saying “Sometimes they’ll die, sometimes the tiniest fodder walk out of the smoldering exploded wreckage completely unscathed.”
This is something that Arrowhead should look to fix, while some enemies such as a Factory Strider should be able to survive the impact, a Trooper should be an instant kill. With the developers currently on summer vacation there won’t be any new updates for a couple of weeks except for important fixes, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a lot to do in the game. The recent Major Order was a success and cut off the supply lines in the Andromeda Sector, and it will be interesting to see where the story goes next, hopefully it will lead to new Sectors being unlocked. While you wait for the next Major Order, we highly recommend checking out our Helldivers 2 best weapons guide and best armor guide so you can try out some new load-outs ready to serve Liber-tea to the Automatons and Terminids.
