A new developer diary has landed from Complex Games for their upcoming tactical RPG Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters.

This time around, the diary focuses on the deadly cosmic plague blighting the world, known as The Bloom. This malevolent force has corrupted the world, creatures and forces of Nurgle. In game, this means enemies can be infected by different strains, which can give them higher damage and abilities they didn’t previously have.

The Bloom will also cause unpredictable warp surges during missions, which can summon enemy reinforcements. The Bloom itself can also mutate if left unchecked, increasing the danger of future combat missions. You won’t just have to fight it on missions, thankfully, as you’ll be able to spend resources between missions to supress the bloom on the strategic level. You’ll choose whether to focus on research on combat to fight the Bloom on the ground, or on your ship.

We’re also introduced to some of the game’s toughest enemies, the Greater Demons. These are Champions that have unique abilities and attacks that’ll force you to change your tactics on the fly. They’ll prove a much hardier challenge than your normal foes and will put your skills to the test.
