It is always wholesome to see veterans take newer players under their wings, helping them to find their footing and get into the game. A title such as Helldivers 2 can be overwhelming, and even after 6 months I still discover new information and tips, so having someone to show you the ropes can really help.
U/Genna87 took to Helldivers 2 sub-Reddit to share an experience where, as a level 80 player, they encountered a new level 2 player while farming Super Credits and decided to take them under their wrong. “I just had the most wholesome match of my entire gaming life. Was farming SC on lvl 2 when I entered on a mission with a lvl 2 and a lvl 80+,” they said.
“A lovely kid was talking and it was clear it was it’s first time playing. I assumed it was the lvl 2, but then I realized was the lvl 80! The kid was playing with his dad explaining him how to play, so I made sure the kid had the most fun I could. We smashed bugs on another mission providing him supplies, weapons, mech and directions.It was heartwarming listen to him realizing we were on opposite sides of the globe and enjoying this great time bonding with his dad!”
This is a great story to hear. Quite often online gaming can be incredibly toxic, and Helldivers 2 is known for its share of toxicity with players regularly trolling each other. Another thing to note for those that may be interested, they were playing on a Steam Deck at the time and reported it runs at 30 fps on low settings.
It would be good to see more players like this, helping the next generation of Helldivers, which may keep them invested in playing the game long term. You could even help them do their part for the Major Order, such as the current one which sees players continue to cut off supply lines to the Andromeda Sector, severely damaging the Automaton forces.
