Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot has confirmed that there won't be a new Assassin's Creed game in 2019.

Speaking at Gamescom this week (via GameSpot), Guillemot revealed that the stabby series is taking a bread next year, so there's no concern about it slipping back into its annual release schedule.

'On Assassin's, we had a game [in 2018] and we have one this year, but we are not going to have a full-fledged Assassin's next year,' said the executive. 'It's just because the team were working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you're not going to have a fully fledged one.'

Just in case people were wondering about his use of the phrase 'full-fledged,' Guillemot clarified that there won't be any spin-off titles either. Instead, we can expect more content for the upcoming Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Still, it seems that Guillemot doesn't regret binning Assassin's Creed's yearly instalments.

'[The time] gave the team the possibility to really bring what they wanted to. The community has been responding very well to it and when I see what we are bringing with Odyssey I know that the community that got back in with Origins will be amazed.'

Assassin's Creed launched in 2007 and beginning with 2009's Assassin's Creed II, a new game was released every year up until and including 2015.

The franchise then took a break in 2016 and returned with the excellent Assassin's Creed Origins last year.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey will ship for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 5.
