Tasha Huo, the showrunner for Tomb Raider The Legend of Lara Croft on Netflix, has now signalled that Season 2 is the end. Despite recently suggesting that Season 3 can still happen, Huo admits that the series isn’t a “runaway hit” and that the fanfare has been disappointing.
The Legend of Lara Croft Season 2 was released on December 11, 2025. It’s an anime starring Hayley Atwell as Lady Croft, and its story takes place before the upcoming release of Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis in 2026, a reimagining of the first Tomb Raider game released in 1996.
Asked by What’s On Netflix how she feels about the series, Huo acknowledges, “Season 2 is the last season you’re going to see,” before describing her feelings as “joyful to see it finally done”.
Huo also admits “It doesn’t have a great [audience] score on Rotten Tomatoes,” and “It’s not [a] runaway hit”. With this in mind, the show has an undesirable combination “that a lot of creators have to come to terms with when things that you love don’t come out to the fanfare that you had hoped”.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Season 1 has a critical score of 73% alongside 33% from the general audience. The audience score for Season 2 is only slightly better at 53%, but there’s no critical score due to a lack of reviews. While the reception from fans is disappointing, Huo professes that she’s “very proud of the show,” and it was a “dream job to work on Lara Croft”.
Although a third Netflix season isn’t happening, there is an upcoming live-action series for Amazon Prime, starring Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. Fans of the video games also have Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis to anticipate in 2026, as well as Tomb Raider Catalyst in 2027.
