Helldivers 2 is a very community-driven game, which means that Arrowhead Game Studios has its finger on the pulse and looks to player feedback and suggestions to help shape the direction of the game. In the past, we have seen some player suggestions be brought to life in the game, and now it looks like another highly requested mission type has been added with the recent Major Order that sees players fight the Automatons in the Ymir and Trigon Sectors.
U/porlydragon took to the Helldivers 2 sub-Reddit to showcase the new mission that has come to the game with the latest Major Order, noting that it was once suggested by another player in the community.
“I heard multiple people talking about a new mission that involves taking down the weapons that destroy our Super Destroyers, and here we are. Arrowhead does care.”
The new Neutralize Orbital Defenses, which is only available on difficulty level 6 and above, is described in-game stating “The Automatons are using large Orbital Cannons in this area to bombard our Super Destroyers. We cannot allow our Aerospace superiority to be challenged. Deploy to the area and destroy any active Orbital Cannons.”
This marks one of the first new missions to come to the game in some time, with the most notable previous example being the mission that saw Super Earth destroy Meridia which triggered the black hole event, however, that was only available for a short time and can’t be played now. The only other recent additions were the inclusion of destroying Factory Striders and the evacuation defense mission.
With the Escalation of Freedom update right around the corner, we can expect to see more missions come to the game as Arrowhead Game Studios adds new content including planets, enemy types, and more. It will be interesting to see where the developers take the game from here, but Arrowhead CCO Johan Pilestedt did note at GDC that they are currently looking at ideas that were cut from the game and seeing how they can be reworked and brought to Helldivers 2, so we can expect plenty of new content over the coming months and years as the Galactic War continues.
But for now, players at least have a new mission to check out over the next week before Escalation of Freedom launches on August 6th. With it being a new mission, now could be a good time to optimize your loadout to help you secure a victory, especially if you usually prefer fighting the Terminids.
