The Finals is a fantastic multiplayer experience with a passionate and vocal fanbase online. Embark does a great job communicating with fans as well as providing regular updates, although there were hiccups the past couple of weeks. While hopefully the hiccups are now over and done with, players within The Finals community have just discovered some shocking terms of service conditions that involve kill stealing.
Players still have one day to help the whole community unlock a free weapon skin. As for updates, Embark has said that the next patch will come out on Wednesday, provided there is no last-minute delay, and it should hopefully fix a bug that wasn’t fully resolved in update 3.5.0.
While a new update this week is exciting, some of the community are shocked to discover that kill stealing is officially against the terms of service for The Finals.
Kill stealing is against The Finals terms of service
On The Finals’ subreddit, OP LongBrainDelay has shared a post titled, ‘Kill stealing is officially not allowed according to The Finals TOS‘. The post is accompanied by a screenshot that shows the game’s terms of service with kill stealing circled amongst a list of “harmful conduct” that is not tolerated.
The terms of service reads “Engaging in conduct that is harmful… or otherwise objectionable in Nexon’s sole discretion, including without limitation looting, kill stealing, making sexual comments, or cursing”.
You can find an official link to the terms of service here:
Naturally, people are confused by the inclusion of kill stealing. One of the top comments says, “I don’t get it. When people steal my kills, I thank them. It’s never seemed a problem at all. That’s just teamwork, isn’t it? How could someone swoop in and kill my enemy in a shady and unhelpful way? I really just don’t understand”.
Another reply says, “How do you even determine what’s kill stealing? If you are double teaming someone, only one person gets the kill. Is that person who gets the kill ‘stealing’ it? That makes no sense”.
To the above a user replied, “Especially in a fast paced game with small team sizes. Like, I could see this being an issue in games that have like 20 players per team and massive maps, with slower gameplay. A person could follow you around, wait till you’ve almost got a kill, and then shoot their burst damage weapon at the last second to repeatedly steal your kills. But The Finals is way too fast paced for that to ever become an issue”.
More comments simply say, “This TOS is bonkers lmao,” and “You must be joking hahaha! It’s not MOBA where kill stealing actually matters”.
Despite the understandable confusion from most players, it’s likely these terms of service are just generic from Nexos and thus not really specific to The Finals despite accompanying the game. As pointed out in the replies, there’s no way to enforce punishments for kill stealing, and there’s also no looting in the game other than Bank It which is entirely built around looting.
