The Finals came out in December of last year, and there was a lot of hype surrounding its release thanks to the unique gameshow format combined with the stellar destruction physics. While seasons 1 and 2 were a lot of fun largely from beginning to end, many in The Finals community believe that Season 3 is the “Worst thing to happen” to the game thanks to devastating nerfs.
While Season 3 has been underwhelming, Embark has confirmed a new feature for this week’s update. In addition, they have also teased that this week’s update is “big,” and will include fixes as well as presumably balance changes for weapons.
The biggest problem with The Finals Season 3 was Terminal Attack becoming Ranked in replacement of Cashout. However, while this was the biggest complaint at the start, the straw that has broke the camel’s back in the eyes of many is the current meta with matches heavily dominated by players picking Light.
The Finals fans agree Season 3 is the worst season yet
On The Finals subreddit, OP Many-Adventurous-394 has shared a post titled ‘Worst season yet‘. This is in regard to Season 3 with the OP arguing, “The light meta is the worst thing to happen to this game”.
The OP’s post explains, “It wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t nerf mediums and heavy’s. If you’re going to buff light so hard why would you nerf the other two classes? Keep them how they were. It’s like you’re forced to run light to have fun or struggle trying to swat mosquitoes the whole match”.
There are many comments in the replies that agree with the OP’s sentiment that this is the “Worst season yet”. One of the replies blames, “Some of the baffling nerf and buff decisions and the overall meta of the season so far of Light spam”. Another reply says, “I agree. I’m super glad all the light enjoyers are having their day in the sun but I’ve just stopped logging in”.
More replies echo the sentiment, “Yeah, definitely annoying how many lights there are like every game plays the exact same when there’s a majority of lights in the lobby”. Fans have wanted nerfs to Light to try to fix the meta, but, on the other hand, some fans argue more in favour of massive buffs to Medium and Heavy to make the playing field more balanced.
Although the Light meta is a major issue with the game right now, it’s not the only failure of Season 3 in the eyes of fans. As mentioned, players are not happy with Terminal Attack as the mode for Ranked, and the community seems to unanimously agree that Cashout needs to return to Ranked in Season 4 as it’s “the heart of The Finals”.
Away from Terminal Attack, many fans are also not happy with the lack of community events and no new game modes. In Season 2 we had an Easter celebration along the introduction of Terminal Attack, and there were also a boatload of community events with rewards on offer.
Unfortunately, there’s only been one community event for Season 3, and most updates have been bare bones. This is largely because many at Embark were on deserved vacation during July.
With Season 4 coming out post-summer, hopefully it will be a return to form and more comparable to seasons 1 and 2. Cashout should return to Ranked getting it off to a good start, and it will be interesting to see what new map and theme is introduced following Japan.
