The Finals update 5.10.0 was a big patch for Season 5 as it temporarily removed the stun gun gadget while Embark continue to developer its rework, and it also delivered some buffs and nerfs. However, the update also delivered a change that has annoyed long-time players. Embark has confirmed this “annoying” change was “not intended” while showing The Finals players how to fix the problem.

How to fix The Finals “annoying” controller change

In The Finals update 5.10.0, Embark delivered the following changes to the controller layout:

  • Updated the gamepad inventory layout for the following presets: Equipment Wheel, Modifier Button Equipping, and Directional Equipping. The new layout better matches the actual gamepad controls. If customized bindings no longer align with the new layout, it will revert to the previous horizontal layout

Following this update, Embark Oscar has said on Discord that the developer “accidentally changed the current layout for all existing controller players” even though it was supposed to only be “a new default layout for new players using controllers”.

Embark are “sorry” about the “annoying” change that was “not intended,” and all you need to do to fix the problem and go back to your old controller settings is follow the below steps:

  • Go to “settings”
  • Go to “Controller”
  • Hit “Restore defaults”
  • Find “Communication Wheel or Inspect (double tap)” and bind it to D-Pad Up
  • Find “Gadget 2” and bind it to D-Pad Down
