Every week The Finals delivers a new update. Some of these updates are bigger than others as Embark doesn’t always deliver balance changes, but many of the patches do with buffs and nerfs for weapons and gadgets. While we don’t know what Embark’s update this week will entail, the developer should resist calls from some within The Finals community to nerf a popular weapon.

It’s a busy time for Embark. We should be getting the Halloween event either this week or next, meanwhile, Embark is soon starting the playtest for their other multiplayer shooter, Arc Raiders. If you haven’t already, you can check out the 4.3.0 patch notes to see what was involved with The Finals’ latest update.

We’re hopeful the Halloween event will start this week, but we’re also hoping for a significant patch that delivers fixes and balance changes. The community has weapons they favor and dislike, and a gun that is currently under the spotlight of controversy is the Model 1887.

The Finals shouldn’t nerf the Model 1887

The Model 1887 has been in The Finals since launch, and it’s a shotgun that is available to the Medium class. It’s especially effective against Lights players as it can eliminate opponents with this build in as little as two shots. It also deals good damage from range that is capable of halving an opponent’s HP.

On The Finals Discord, there are calls for Embark to nerf the Model 1887 because it has become the “meta”. There are claims that the model has been the meta since Season 3, and some have also claimed that the Model 1887 is “brainless [because] unlike other shotguns it has rifle range so you can chunk people from miles away with very little mechanical/positioning skill”.

There are a lot of calls to nerf the Model 1887 on Discord, and hopefully Embark does not listen to the crowd of players who dislike the weapon. There have been too many instances in The Finals’ past where a perfectly fine gun was neutered because of complaints about it being too powerful.

As stated by the CheesyDipster on Reddit, it’s possible “people are now just complaining about the Model because the AK and the FCAR got nerfed”. Instead of nerfing weapons that are decent, Embark should instead be buffing weapons that are no longer as good.

There are always calls for Embark to nerf weapons that have become too OP, and it’s a self-fulfilling cycle as constantly nerfing weapons simply results in another gun becoming “the most OP weapon” in the game. Instead of more nerfs, we need more effective buffs and hopefully that’s what we will get.
