The figures are in, and though we all knew Tears of the Kingdom would sell well – it’s officially become the fastest selling game in the history of the Legend of Zelda series.

The news came from the official Nintendo Twitter account, which tweeted that the game has now sold 10 million copies across digital and physical in just three days. For reference, Bandai Namco’s Elden Ring – one of 2022’s most popular games – hit the twelve million milestone in just shy of three weeks. It’s even more impressive when you consider that Elden Ring released on multiple formats – while Tears of the Kingdom is of course, a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

There’s no breakdown of how many of those were digital and how many were physical sales, although earlier in the week GamesIndustry.biz reported that the game became Nintendo’s second biggest release in the UK ever by boxed sales revenue, only being bested by 2008 offering Wii Fit. It also eclipsed the boxed sales of its nearest 2023 rival – Hogwarts Legacy – by more than 50%.

In the days since the game’s launch there’s been plenty to see in Tears of the Kingdom – if you want to make yourself about as rich as Nintendo probably feel right now, check out this handy rupee farming trick.
