Plenty of players might have already purchased the Starfield upgrade on Xbox to get access to the game on September 1, 2023, but Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG is already taking the Steam charts by storm with it jumping into the top 50 games on the platform based on peak all-time concurrent player count.
According to SteamDB, Starfield has already attracted over 230,000 players on the first day of its early access release. Placing it as the 42nd most-played game on Steam, based on its peak all-time concurrent player count, it’s likely to rocket (pun intended) up the Steam charts when the Standard Edition of the game releases on September 6.
Early reception to the game has been extremely positive, with fans praising the surprising level of polish present throughout the game. This is notable as Bethesda have a long history with its fans of being known for releasing games full of bugs. While the majority of these bugs are usually just a humourous mishap, some games, like Bethesda Game Studios’ previous release, Fallout 76, drew major backlash from players as the game was released in a less than stellar state. Alongside this, Arkane Studios’ latest game, published by Bethesda Softworks, Redfall, received a slew of backlash due to countless bugs and a general lack of polish.
While Starfield isn’t free from bugs, it’s certainly a huge achievement for Bethesda and Xbox as, overall the game has been enticing players with its broad level of freedom and narrative-driven elements. Noting Bethesda’s pride when it came to delivering the game, the developer issued a letter thanking fans for their support, saying, “Thank you for allowing us to chase our dreams and create them”.
However, speaking of bugs Starfield character models are already haunting my dreams and on the community side, one fan has taken it upon themselves to recreate the Millennium Falcon in Starfield.
