The last episode of ‘Staged’, 2021’s New Years Eve special, saw perennially hapless director Simon (Evans) informing David (Tennant) and Michael (Sheen), to their horror, that the BBC wanted a 3rd series of ‘Staged’. And now, finally, we have a release date for ‘Staged’ Series 3 (and the possible return of the UK to lockdown if you believe the conspiracy theories…)

Britbox, who have been the timed exclusive streaming home for each series of ‘Staged’ revealed today in the below tweet (featuring a suitably disgruntled Michael and David as they work at their laptops) that Series 3 of ‘Staged’ will premiere exclusively on Britbox on Thursday 24th November 2022:

Then then promptly followed this tweet with a further tweet showing Anna (Lundberg) and Georgia (Tennant) reclining on sun loungers with a large glass of red wine each as children’s toys are scattered around them with the number 3 on a table between them.

‘Staged’ has become a global hit thanks to the genius of its writing and the genuine real life friendships between its stars, providing much needed levity for viewers worldwide during the darkest days of the global COVID-19/Corona Virus pandemic.

As we watched as ‘Good Omens’ stars and real life friends, David Tennant and Michael Sheen, supported each other, drove each other (and their wives, Georgia and Anna) mad, and dealt with the trials and tribulations of acting, marriage, and parenthood while confined to their homes.

The series, which was somewhat of a surprise hit for everyone involved, came about as a way for director and co-star, Simon Evans, to stay busy and creative during lockdown as he had been prepping to shoot his first movie before the first UK lockdown came into effect on 26th March 2020.

But the show’s success was quick to come, thanks to the global affection already in place for its leads, and the relatability of its premise. As, arguably, no show or movie before or since ‘Staged’ has come close to capturing the frustration and isolation felt by millions across the world during their nations’ lockdowns.

The show’s success saw fans from all walks of life, with several high profile celebrities such as Judi Dench and Whoopi Goldberg to name but two (I won’t ruin the other appearances) starring in Series 2 either as a heightened version of themselves or as a new character related to the in-show story of the BBC planning an American adaptation of ‘Staged’.

No trailer has been released yet for Series 3, but be sure to keep an eye here on Videogamer, as we will be posting it as soon as it is released.
