There have been lots of incredible superhero video games in recent years from Guardians of the Galaxy to Batman to Marvel’s most famous mascot. The Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Metacritic review score confirms that it is another spectacular outing, but the friendly neighborhood webhead still hasn’t managed to dethrone DC’s Dark Knight as the highest-rated superhero video game of all time.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is an incredible adventure launching exclusively on the PS5 come October 20th. Everyone on current-gen PlayStation consoles can preload the sequel right now provided you’ve pre-ordered, meanwhile, there’s hope yet that it will come to PC sometime in the future similar to Insomnaic’s first portrayal of the famous web crawler.

The review embargo has lifted, and final impressions pretty much confirm that Insomniac’s sequel is a masterpiece. Although another gem for PlayStation and superhero enthusiasts to enjoy, DC fans can remain smug over the fact they still have the best superhero video game of all time according to Metacritic.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Metacritic review score

The Metacritic review score for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is 91. As of writing, there are 91 reviews posted on Metacritic with 99% of them positive and zero negative. It’s a remarkably good score. We all expected the sequel to be amazing anyway because of how great the first game was, as well as because Insomanic has an incredible portfolio that consists of beloved experiences like Ratchet and Clank.

In our own Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 review, we have given the game a spectacular 10/10. Reviewer Amaar Chowdhury praises it as a triumphant sequel carried by ‘electrifying game-play and a plot compelled by dark consequences’. There’s also plenty of adoration for primary antagonist Venom who is given much, much better representation than in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.

However, despite our perfect score, it still isn’t the highest-rated superhero video game of all time on Metacritic. That honor belongs to the revolutionary Batman Arkham City which sits pretty at the top with an overall aggregate of 96 for PS3.

Although it hasn’t toppled Arkham City, Spider-Man 2 still sits comfortably in the top 5 superhero games of all time. It even surpassed Insomanic’s first Spider-Man game which has an overall aggregate of 87, and it has even beaten the arguably underappreciated Batman Arkham Knight. Meanwhile, Batman again wins the superhero wars with a 92 for Arkham Asylum. There’s the slimmest chance Spider-Man 2 could dethrone Batman when all reviews are in, but, as of writing, the caped crusader is standing tall.

Spider-Man 2 becomes playable for PlayStation users on October 20th. It is not coming to PS4 as it is strictly exclusive to PS5 to take advantage of the power of Sony’s current-gen machine. We only have a few more days to wait until its launch, and we cannot wait to battle a ferocious gallery of rogues that includes the almighty Venom.
