Saber Interactive has shut down fan hopes for a PvPvE mode for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, despite admitting the game mode would be a perfect fit for the game. In a new interview, the developer revealed that there are currently “no plans” to let players duke it out amidst hordes of Tyranids anytime soon.

No PvEvP for Space Marine 2

With a new October Operation on the way, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is set to end the Tyranid invasion of Kadaku, and new content is in the works. With plans for story DLC now a possibility alongside ideas for Space Marine 3, the future looks bright for the new action game.

However, in a new interview with MP1st, game director Dmitry Grigorenko explained that the way the game is built means a PvEvP game would be difficult. This means that the creation of such an intricate and frantic game mode is a lot more work than fans expect.

“It sounds great on paper, but when you actually start trying, it becomes apparent that it’s very annoying when you fight other players only to get back-stabbed by an AI opponent,” Grigorenko explained. “This is why most of the games are trying to ensure that PvP and PvE aspects don’t intersect that much, i.e. AI opponents are restricted to specific places on maps, etc. It’s a complicated mode to implement that would change the experience significantly, so I’m afraid there are no plans for it.”

It could happen one day

While Grigorenko explains that the addition of Space Marine 2 PvEvP isn’t planned right now, it could still happen in the future. At the time of writing, a new Horde Mode is planned for the game, meaning that Saber is willing to bring new modes to the game over time.

Judging from the years of support for the studio’s last game, World War Z, which added new game modes and even a first-person mode, Space Marine 2 could end up receiving some massive additions. Considering the massive sales success of the new Warhammer title, a lot of support is undoubtedly on the way.
