The massive launch success of Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 has caused developer Saber Interactive to rethink its next steps. While still not concrete, Space Marine 2 story DLC is being considered before an eventual sequel.

Space Marine 2 story DLC might happen

With Space Marine 2 selling faster than any DOOM game, Saber Interactive is dealing with unprecedented success. While the studio won’t be adding features like an FoV slider or more robust Chaos customisation, the team is considering the addition of story DLC.

In an interview with IGN, Saber Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits revealed that game director Dimitry Grigorenko already has ideas for a follow-up. However, with the game’s success, they could create a story expansion instead of a standalone sequel.

“He has proposed some story ideas that could either be DLC or a sequel,” Willits told the outlet. “We’re literally just catching our breath. This is two weeks out. We just need to get the dust to settle. But I can confidently say that we will not disappoint our Warhammer fans in the future.”

More content for years to come

While Saber isn’t exactly sure what its next steps are, outside of the already-promised post-launch content, the game’s success has created an obvious path. With the massive sales of Space Marine 2, the studio will be working on the series for years to come.

“It’s too big of a success!” Willits exclaimed. “I know that’s an obvious thing to say, but hopefully we’ll be working on Space Marine content for a long time.”

Eventually, Saber Interactive may create a Space Marine 3, but with the current game’s success a sequel may not be needed. Following the studio’s half-decade of support for its zombie co-op game World War Z, we expect to see a lot of post-launch content for this awesome Warhammer game.
