Saber Interactive’s Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is an amazing co-op game, but what if you have more than a handful of friends? (Couldn’t be us.) In a spectacular turn of events, the game’s popular Astartes Overhaul mod has added 12-player co-op to the game to turn the game’s PvE Operations into true military chaos.

Created by modders Warhammer Workshop, Akrythael and Sheldon_OSINT, the Astartes Overhaul mod adds brand-new custom classes, new weapons and overhauled customisation. However, an upcoming version of the mod allows players to fight through hordes of Xenos Scum with 11 friends… or accomplices.

12-player co-op in Space Marine 2

Currently not publicly available, the next update for the popular Astartes Overhaul mod brings fully functional 12-player co-op to the game for private lobbies. Obviously only available on PC, the mod turns every mission in the game into a more tabletop-accurate squad of Ultramarines.

With more difficult missions still on the way for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, bringing a bigger squad along for some of the game’s higher difficulties is certainly a way to feel the true terror of the Xenos threat again. After all, who doesn’t like to see their entire squad of friends wiped out by a Biovore?

Players who have early access to the mod have described the new play-style as feeling like an “MMO dungeon”. While performance does seem to take a bit of a hit when the action truly kicks off, it’s awesome to see a bigger squad of Ultramarines stomp through the game’s gorgeous levels.

With the upcoming Space Marine 3 now in development, Saber Interactive is planning to make a “bigger and better” sequel. Hopefully, there will be options for bigger squads for co-op missions, or even MMO-like raids, in the next game.
