The next update for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is adapting one of the tabletop game’s most underwhelming weapons into a powerful video game sidearm. In a new update for the popular action game, Saber is bringing the Neo-Volkite Pistol to space marines still battling the forces of Chaos and/or Xenos scum.
Space Marine 2 adds a new weapon
In the latest community update for the game, Saber and Focus Home Interactive confirmed that the next big update will bring a brand-new weapon for players to use. While the next update won’t be as big as the October update that added a brand-new Operation mission, it’s still bringing an awesome new weapon to everyone’s arsenal.
A weapon of choice against fleshy Tyranids, the Neo-Volkite Pistol is a brand-new thermal weapon that’s designed to sear through flesh with explosive jets of flame. Unlike current plasma weapons in the game, the Neo-Volkite is an energy beam that cuts through your enemies with ease.
The new gun won’t be available for every class, but it will be playable for Bulwark, Assault and Vanguard marines. Thankfully, for players who can’t use the new weapon on their character of choice, a sweep of fresh buffs are also coming after the positive reception of the game’s last update.
From tabletop to video game
For fans of Warhammer 40K, the arrival of the Neo-Volkite Pistol may not be too exciting just by its name. While the pistol is an awesome piece of tech in lore, it’s not a brilliant weapon in the latest edition of Games Workshop’s wargaming experience.
While it’s not technically “useless”, many players simply prefer the classic Plasma Pistol due to its better odds in almost every way. Nethertheless, bringing the weapon to Saber’s video game shows that even the worst—hyperbole–tabletop weapons can be brilliant in a video game adaptation. What we’re saying is: Saber should add the shovel as a weapon.
