Hopes are being raised once more for the revival of PlatinumGames’ cancelled Xbox exclusive Scalebound.

This is mainly thanks to comments made by PlatinumGames’ president Atsushi Inaba and vice president Hideki Kamiya . They were asked about the game in an interview with IGN Japan (translated by Video Games Chronicle). “Kamiya has always wanted to do Scalebound. So we’d like to have a proper discussion with Microsoft,” Inaba is said to have said.

Kamiya, the director of the game, added further comments calling on Xbox head Phil Spencer to get things rolling. “We did a lot of work on it, and it’s no use Microsoft keeping the game in its current form, so we’d like to do something about it (laughs). Phil! Let’s do it together!”

Scalebound was set to be an action adventure RPG for the Xbox One starring a man called Drew and his dragon, Thuban. Both Microsoft and PlatinumGames took equal responsibility for the cancellation in 2017, saying that they weren’t sure if they could meet fan expectations for the game.

Back in February 2020, it was reported that Platinum were interested in bringing back the game. However, a few months later Spencer claimed it was “something we’ve all moved past”. Whether these new talks on Scalebound’s future will actually happen, we’ll have to wait and see.
