Capcom has revealed that its upcoming remake of Resident Evil 2 will not feature virtual reality support.

Speaking with the Daily Star, producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Yoshiaki Hirabayashi explained that the game's use of a third-person, over-the-shoulder camera viewpoint isn't the best fit for a VR game.

Resident Evil 7:  biohazard used VR of course, although that was a first-person game that did not show the main character in-game.

'We’re not thinking about VR support currently, given that the camera perspective and the over-the-shoulder choice would mean that VR is not the best way to present the game,' said Kanda-san. 'VR doesn’t match the vision for us.'

When the interviewer noted that VR would be an interesting addition to Resi 2, particularly due to the reveal trailer showcasing the action from a rat's perspective, Hirabayashi-san added:

'…thinking about it, maybe giving you the rat’s eye view in the trailer might have given people the wrong idea!' But if you think there is Rat VR coming… that’s not the case.' Oh well.

Resident Evil 2 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on January 25, 2019.

Capcom has revealed that the game will include two campaigns, though won't feature the A/B scenarios of the original PlayStation version. That said, the Hunk and tofu mini-games will still be included in the remake.

If like me you're a lover of all things gaming tat, then feast your eyes on this lovely Resident Evil 2 Collector's Edition.

Resident Evil 2 takes place in autumn 1998 as Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield arrive in Raccoon City; the former to start a new job with the local plod, and the latter looking for her missing brother, ex-S.T.A.R.S. member and future boulder-puncher, Chris.

Things soon go tit's up however, with the entire city having succumbed to a zombie outbreak leaving only a handful of survivors still in town. Leon and Claire soon take refuge in the R.P.D., where they attempt to plan their escape and rescue as many citizens as possible.
