Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan has written an open letter to mark one year since the PlayStation 5 launched.
Over on the PlayStation Blog, Ryan thanked fans for the first twelve months of the console’s life. He went on to point out the console’s exclusives, such as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal and Deathloop. He’d also celebrate Sony’s acquisition of several studios over the past year, including Bluepoint Games, Firesprite, Housemarque and Nixxes. Ryan also touched upon the reveal of the next-gen PSVR system, and upcoming titles like God of War Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7 and Horizon: Forbidden West.
Ryan would also reveal the most played games in the console’s first year, with over 4.6 billion hours clocked up. Top of the list, perhaps unsurprisingly, are Fortnite, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and FIFA 21. They’re closely followed by NBA 2K21, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Destiny 2. Interestingly enough, it takes until 8 and 9 for the first PS exclusives, with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls.
The letter closed by thanking fans for their patience. “We continue to see historic demand for PS5 and we understand the inventory constraints remain a source of frustration for many of our customers. Rest assured that we are laser-focused on doing everything in our power to ship as many units as possible, it’s something we work on every day across the company and remains my top priority. Again, we appreciate your patience as we navigate through these unprecedented global challenges.”
