It’s been a superb year for video games so far, and, while it’s disappointing the release of GTA 6 has been delayed into 2026, the good news is that there’s plenty more games to anticipate such as Ghost of Yotei, Borderlands 4, and others. In addition to these games, we are less than a month away from the always highly-anticipated Summer Games Fest. While it’s official Xbox will have their own dedicated showcase, there are also rumors of a PlayStation Showcase or State of Play from Sony. These rumors originally stem from a credible insider, although another renowned leaker says they “have not heard anything” about such an event happening.
Leaker has “not heard anything” about PlayStation Showcase for summer 2025
Back in February, Jeff Grubb revealed that Sony are internally planning a PlayStation show for the summer. During Game Mess Decides 385, Grubb said, “I think PlayStation wants to put out more games than this… they could still have some fun announcements, they could really start bolstering the expectations for 2026”.
Grubb continued, “Internally, it sounds like they’re [Sony] debating, flopping between, maybe making something this summer a full showcase versus another State of Play, but they are considering a full showcase. And, if they have a showcase, that means they’ll have a lot of stuff to talk about”.
This doesn’t guarantee a showcase or State of Play will happen as nothing is official. Recently, on May 11th, gossip about a PlayStation Showcase surfaced again thanks to PlayStation news account, Pyo, simply tweeting “PlayStation Showcase”. This resulted in one user asking prolific leaker, NateTheHate, if they “know anything,” to which NateTheHate responded, “I have not heard anything”.
While it’s a shame NateTheHate has not “heard anything,” it’s still plausible we get an event this summer. Another State of Play would probably be the safe bet, and towards the end of May also seems a safe bet, too, as Sony conducted a State of Play in 2024 on May 30th, and there was a PlayStation Showcase held in 2023 on May 24th.
Here’s hoping Sony kicks off the summer of trailers and reveals before May ends and we enter June. There are games for Sony to show off such as Ghost of Yotei and the recently delayed to August Lost Soul Aside, and hopefully there would also be announcements for the publisher to make.
In other gaming news, NateTheHate has teased “at least one” of three long-anticipated massive games will be at Summer Game Fest.
