Recently appointed PlatinumGames CEO Atsushi Inaba has been speaking on the future of the Japanese studio.

Inaba has been speaking to Japanese publication Famitsu (translated by Video Games Chronicle) in an interview. Specifically, he’d refer to the mysterious Project G.G. in particular, but remained coy as to exactly what it is.  “Project G.G. is still in the stage of testing various things, so I can’t tell you much about it, but when it comes to future game production, we want to focus on creating games that are different from the past. I would like to focus on creating games that can be enjoyed and loved for a longer period of time.”

The producer did acknowledge smaller games that the team have in the immediate future, including the “small but brilliantly conceived” Sol Cresta. He also gave a shout out to long-running series like Bayonetta, who’s third title is hoping to land this year. “However, the projects that we are trying to create for the future will be different in terms of their structure. Considering the changes in the market over the next five years or so, I think it is absolutely necessary for us to do this. I’m sorry for being so vague, but I think that’s all I can tell you right now.”

PlatinumGames will follow up Sol Cresta with Babylon’s Fall for Square Enix in March. As that’s also live service game for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC, perhaps it’ll act as their proving ground? Previously, Project G.G. has been shown off as a giant-hero type action game. Whether that’s still the case in the final version, it seems for now we’ll have to wait to find out.
