After a long wait, we finally got a look at some gameplay for PlatinumGames’ Bayonetta 3 along with a 2022 release window.
The footage came at the end of last night’s Nintendo Direct event. Showing what seems to be a destroyed Japanese city, a bunch of ill-fated soldiers are no match for the monstrosity at the centre of the chaos. A quick Astral Chain nod is the cue for our favourite bullet-shoe toting witch to intervene, complete with literal and figurative wink to camera with her unfashionably late quip.
Bayonetta’s got a few new moves in her arsenal, according to the blurb. Specifically, she’ll have a Demon Masquerade ability that lets her directly control her hair-summoned demons for the first time. Expect plenty of building-sized kaiju tussles alongside all the stylish action we’ve come to know and love.
A third game in the series was first announced all the way back in 2017. We’ve been drip-fed information ever since, but it looks like it’s finally on the horizon. Earlier this year executive producer Hideki Kamiya joked that we should “reset and forget” about the game. “Then when something finally does happen, it will be a nice surprise, won’t it?”
We’re promised more news on the game in the coming months. For now, Bayonetta 3 has a 2022 release window and will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
