Palworld gamers have seen and heard the comparisons to Pokémon. By nature, any game that involves capturing creatures is going to be considered alongside Pokémon games, which are among the first and are certainly the most popular to use that mechanic. From design choices to other aspects, there are similarities between the two games. Palworld players don’t care about any of that. They’ve even taken to laughing at Pokémon after a parody page’s comments resurfaced.

A quote seemingly resurfaced from Satoshi Tajiri, the president of Game Freak and the credited creator of Pokémon. A quick search for the Facebook account confirms that this was posted 11 years ago. However, it was by what certainly appears to be a parody account. At that time, Pokémon X and Y were the preeminent games of the franchise. Even then, fans were calling for a more expansive game like Palworld has proven to be.

The parody of Tajiri said on Facebook, “You all think you have great ideas for Pokemon games, but if I actually listened to all of you and we combined all of your ideas into a game, it would be an unplayable monstrous game. You want a game with all the regions, but only the first generation Pokemons, yet all the legendary ones and such silly things. Whenever I receive one of these rants, I go to the development floor and read it out loud to all the Game Freak employees in a mocking voice, and we all laugh at you.”

This got posted to the subreddit, and Palworld gamers didn’t hold back. u/DoctorNerf said that fans have often done well making bigger and better Pokémon games, “The limitations Pokémon fans think exist don’t exist. They just don’t want to spend the money they have to make something epic.”

u/LionTribe8 said, “The problem with Game Freaks is Game Freaks. They never listen to their fan base. If it made money they pump resources into it, but never a creative consideration or nod… Palworld smacks.” u/CollegeBoy1613 added a personal shot at Tajiri, “Silly man with small limited vision and imagination.”

Another user by the name of u/mousedestruction pondered whether or not this mindset was responsible for the stagnation in Game Freak, “That sounds like a failing attitude to me. And surely it must be, I liked the Pokémon games, but I haven’t played one in years, probably a decade.”

Several other Palworld gamers took shots at Pokémon, calling Game Freak one of the worst developers out there. We need to stress again that these comments are from a parody. Satoshi Tajiri did not say anything about what fans wanted in 2013. The post does still seem to illustrate a key difference in the two games. That is what many Palworld players have pointed out.
