Those who were anticipating a potential new Pokémon Legends game at the most recent Pokémon Presents were rewarded with a short teaser for Pokémon Legends Z-A, a new game set to be a sequel to Pokémon Legends Arceus, the hit game from 2022. Most of the presentation was new content for some existing games, but fans who stayed to the end were rewarded. When does this exciting new game come out?
When does Pokémon Z-A come out?
The Pokémon Company confirmed a loose release window of 2025. That means that it will be at least nine months until this game comes out. More realistically, it will be released sometime in the middle of the year, so 15 months might be the timeline.
There are a lot of logistics for this game to come out. Since it’s set to release so far in the future, it’s likely going to be for both the Nintendo Switch and its rumored successor. The Switch 2 hasn’t been revealed yet, but rumors say it’s coming soon, and the new Pokémon will presumably be on that.
However, since the console hasn’t even been announced, it’s probably not going to be out for some time. That likely puts a delay on when Pokémon Legends Z-A can come out.
What is Pokémon Z-A?
Rumors abounded that this year’s Pokémon Day, always February 27, would see the announcement of new games, potentially some Gold and Silver remakes. Those did not materialize, but the second Legends-style game was confirmed. It appears to be focusing on Zygarde, the Order Pokémon from the Kalos region.
Much like Arceus focused on its titular creature, this game can be expected to focus on Zygarde. In the same sense, it is likely to explore the past in Kalos, just like Hisui was the past version of Sinnoh (Arceus’ original region).
Nintendo and the Pokémon Company stopped short of showing a ton of gameplay. The trailer, which lasted a couple of minutes, showed the creation of some cities, which may be a part of the gameplay.

With a release date so far in the future, don’t expect to get a ton of confirmed details soon. They likely haven’t done much for the game just yet, so it could be a while before a full trailer or the official release date.
Some of it did look futuristic, so it could be potentially set in the future of the Kalos region. Time will tell as more information comes out. We will keep you posted on what you need to know for the new Pokémon game, though.
