Nintendo is buying CG company, renaming it Nintendo Pictures

Nintendo has announced that it is acquiring Dynamo Pictures, a Japanese CG company, and will be renaming it Nintendo Pictures.

Dynamo Studios specialises in C.G.I. for animation, films, television, and it has done motion-capture work, as well. Nintendo plans to buy 100% of outstanding Dynamo shares (via VGC), and expects the deal to close on October 3rd.

This is wholly separate to Nintendo Studios, for which a listing recently appeared. That project was related to the upcoming animated Super Mario film.

Nintendo Pictures, on the other hand, could be put to use making all sorts of tie-in stuff. Movies, TV shows, what have you. In similar fashion to Sony, who has film divisions, Nintendo could branch out into other sectors.

However, it is worth pointing out that Dynamo has also worked on CG for a number of video games. These include cut scenes for Final Fantasy XIII-2, and motion capture for Death Stranding, Monster Hunter World, Nier Replicant, and Persona 5.

So it could well be that Nintendo wants a visual support studio. Then again, the name Nintendo Pictures seems to hint at something further afield.
