A recent MW2 patch has apparently added a much-needed feature to the game that nobody has noticed until now. Some players have found that an oxygen meter now appears in the multiplayer mode’s user interface (UI) whenever they swam underwater. This is an undeniably useful feature as it now gives you a better idea of when your character is going to run out of air while submerged.

With Modern Warfare 2’s crashing issues and broken report system remaining unaddressed, this at least gives fans something to celebrate no matter how small of an addition it may be. It’s appearance in the game was seemingly first noted by a Redditor who discovered it while taking a dip in the recently introduced Pelayo’s Lighthouse map.

According to a post created by u/ybfelix, they noticed that “an oxygen meter appears on [the] left side of [the] screen,” which reportedly had the appearance of a “partial arc” that steadily decreased while underwater. They would then state that they didn’t notice its presence in the game before, which is a sentiment that other commenters immediately echoed.

One person mentioned that it wasn’t there when “they played a few weeks back,” and that this is the first time they’ve seen anyone “post about it so it has to be new.” Other responses also seem to be unfamiliar with its availability in the game as many are repeatedly commenting that they’ve only noticed it recently throughout different MW2 modes.

This includes both Warzone 2 battle royale and DMZ so it seems to be a mechanic that’s now widely available throughout the game. Hopefully, these sort of useful feature additions become commonplace in the near future in order to give the player base a much smoother in-game experience. Based on the developer’s track record, however, we probably shouldn’t raise our expectations too much.
