MW2 developers Infinity Ward and Raven Software are no strangers when it comes to bringing classic maps to CoD’s latest installment. Shoot House and the often divisive Shipment are just some examples of popular locations that have been brought back due to popular demand.

This time around, however, one eagle-eyed Redditor has discovered that one particular map in the current rotation is just a remake of a classic location. Taraq, the war-torn desert locale, is apparently just a revamped version of Neuville from Call of Duty: United Offensive.

United Offensive was one of the very first expansion packs released in Activision’s popular FPS franchise. At the time, it also became one of the most popular DLC’s because it contained numerous novel features such as a multiplayer ranking system. It also introduced three notable MP game modes in Domination, Capture the Flag, and Base Assault, the first of which is still being included in installment to this day.

Although some users are apparently treating this revelation as a negative for MW2, others are instead welcoming the idea of classic maps being brought back into the fray. One user has even said that the game needs “more re-imaginations of the OG CoD maps” and not just “remakes and returns of the exact same maps from the past decade.”

Other players would then go on to chime in with their own tidbits regarding remade maps in the series with one user mentioning that Pipeline from Call of Duty 4 was inspired by a similar location from CoD 1/CoD 2.

There are apparently many other maps throughout the series that have just been re-conceptualizations of classic series locations. With this in mind, there will most likely be more of these added into future releases. Hopefully, the developers can add more novel features to each one and not just make them a stale and lazy inclusion to a franchise that has lacked innovation.
