Madden 23: Gridiron Guardians Volume 2 & More

From September 21, 2022 to September 29, 2022, Madden 23 Ultimate Team released two different player drops from its popular superhero program known as the ‘Gridiron Guardians‘.

The Gridiron Guardians Program is a great one, bringing out the superstar feel and energy of several top-tier active and former NFL players who dominated the gridiron like superheroes. The first wave of Gridiron Guardians was a vast one, providing fans with 66 new players that ranged from from as high as 91 overalls to as low as 79 overalls.

That said, these original Gridiron Guardians are outdated within the MUT community, seeing how many better cards Madden 23 has released since. And as a result, Madden 23 Ultimate Team has returned with a second volume of Gridiron Guardians, presenting fans with a much better set of superstars to pursue.

The Gridiron Guardians Volume 2 reveal took place today at 10:30AM ET / 3:30PM GMT on Good Morning Madden, with the in-game release set for tomorrow. This first of two Gridiron Guardians Volume 2 drops only came with a little over 15 new players. However, there’s still plenty to be had as fans look to upgrade their original sets with some significantly better guardians.

On that note, we present you all the new Gridiron Guardians Volume 2 players from the reveal today along with the new Super Bowl MVP player.

Madden 23: Gridiron Guardians Vol. 2 Players

Similarly to its first set of Gridiron Guardians, Volume 2 comes with a variety of fun ways to level up your lineups and reap the rewards this new program has to offer.

The Volume 2 edition of the Gridiron Guardians Program comes with its very own Field Pass, House Rules, Challenges, and Player Sets for fans to complete and enjoy.

That said, the highlight of this new drop has to be the ‘Origin Players’, which we detail in full down below.

Origin Players (95 Overall)

In the previous Gridiron Guardians release that took place last year, Madden 23 introduced special types of players such as ‘Mentors’ and ‘Alter Egos’. But for this second volume of the program, Madden 23 introduced a different player category, called Origin Players.

Origin Players come with 95 overall ratings but can alter into different versions of their card that grants them special benefits and perks. These versions are called ‘Variants’, and each of these Origin Players can be altered into one of two variants: The Guardian Variant or The Protector Variant. These two variants will differentiate through the card art for that player as illustrated above, with ‘BOOM’ representing the Guardian Variants and ‘POW’ representing the Protector Variants.

To clarify, the Guardian Variant comes with a motivator chem that allows for that Origin Player to provide a boost for a certain position group. While the Protector Variant provides additional attributes and archetypes for the Origin player.

In order to acquire these Origin Players, you need to secure Origin Tokens, which can be collected in the Gridiron Guards Vol. 2 Field Pass, House Rules, and via the Challenges as well. Upon securing these tokens, you can then place them in one of the Origin Player sets, and once completed, can select which variant you want to apply for that player. Down below are the five Origin Players from the first drop:

Madden 23: Super Bowl MVP Player

In addition to the Gridiron Guardians Volume 2 drop, we also decided to include the final Super Bowl Program player release as well, which consisted of the one and only 2022 MVP and Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes.

Considering how well Mahomes played despite dealing with a banged up ankle, its certainly fitting to have him in this feature seeing he was superhero-like throughout that nail-biting 38-35 Super Bowl win.

Along with Tom Brady’s Tribute card, Mahomes is now the only other 99 overall rated player in the game. The MVP Mahomes card is truly special, solidifying its place as the best card in MUT right now.
