The Forest, Endnight Games initial installment, has slightly been left by the wayside due to the much anticipated release of Sons of the Forest. However, the popular survival horror entry from 2014 still has a consistent amount of users playing it to this day.

Because of this, the game’s devoted player base are asking if the developers still provide updates for its initial installment. Luckily, we’re here to answer that exact question for you so you’ll no longer have to wonder.

Here’s what we know Endnight Games’ development plan for The Forest.

Does The Forest still receive updates?

Unfortunately, The Forest no longer receives any updates since Endnight Games began working on its sequel, Sons of the Forest. The last patch was released on September 2019 and it mainly introduced VR functionality. It also contained a number of bug fixes to improve the overall quality of the game.

With this in mind, it’s highly unlikely that Endnight Games will start to put out updates this far into The Forest’s lifespan. Since the sequel is still in its early access phase, it will also require the video game studio’s undivided attention, so the predecessor’s current state will more than likely remain the same all throughout.

The developers have also mentioned that they plan on adding more content, such as new weapons, items, enemies, and more throughout its pre-release phase, which should keep them incredibly busy.

With that in mind, those looking for the same, updated experience will now be able to do so by simply purchasing and playing Sons of the Forest. Its early access period will apparently last between 6 to 8 months, so there will be plenty of time enjoy it before it gets released.
