The Terminid planets have recently been taken over by the Gloom, making it incredibly difficult for Helldivers 2 players to see as they serve Liber-tea. It is unclear how this is playing into the story but with each Major Order we are discovering more about its effects and it will be interesting to see whether it leads to new enemies or challenges to face.
U/Fresh_Dealer_9694 took to the Helldivers 2 sub-Reddit to suggest that a thermal imaging camera be added to the game, making it easier to see the Terminids noting that “We have so many helmets but none of them mounted thermal imaging camera, why is that?”
In recent weeks, the Gloom has taken over the east part of the galaxy, with the yellow spores making many planets incredibly difficult to navigate, with one Reddit user saying,
“Virtually every planet available for play (and where almost 100% of the playerbase are located) have reduced visibility as one of the environmental effects active. It feels like this has been more and more true. Why aren’t we allowed to see the game we’re playing?”
The Gloom can be dissipated during the mission though, by locating and destroying the Spore Tower, which can be destroyed by most weapons in the game, although I find using a Stratagem such as the Eagle Napalm Airstrike to be sufficient, and its fire damage will also help take care of any surrounding Terminids. Once this has been destroyed, it is much easier to see and the rest of the mission is much more enjoyable. It will be interesting to see what part the Gloom plays in the Galactic War in the long term, but for now, it is just something that affects visibility.
The latest Major Order has been a huge success, with over 750 million Terminids and 5 million Bile Titans eradicated from the galaxy, which should have put a dent in their forces. This comes on the back of the weapon nerfs that made weapons such as the Flamethrower and Breaker Incendiary Shotgun less effective against the Terminids, but don’t worry because the next update is set to focus on buffs. But, if you’re struggling to find what weapon to take with you to spread managed democracy, I highly recommend checking out our Helldivers 2 best weapons guide and best armor guide.
