With Helldivers 2 Major Orders now getting harder and harder, some fans have noticed a new challenge popping up in every new mission: low visibility. Unlike missions on launch, Helldivers 2’s newest missions are taking place almost entirely in environments impossible to see in.
Helldivers 2 low visibility
While some Helldivers players have issues with poor stealth mechanics, others have taken to complain about the frequency of low visibility missions. In a Reddit thread, fans complained about the sheer number of missions that take place in players where you can’t see anything.
“Virtually every planet available for play (and where almost 100% of the playerbase are located) have reduced visibility as one of the environmental effects active. It feels like this has been more and more true. Why aren’t we allowed to see the game we’re playing?” one player asked.
Countless players echoed this sentiment with many complaining that the low visibility effect results in frequent headaches. Others explained this the increased appearance of the effect has caused them to abandon major orders entirely.
“That’s part of the reason I started going to planets not part of MO or following around the majority of players,” one player said. “I enjoy the idea of participating in the war effort, but if I’m not having fun on a biome, I’m not forcing myself to play there.”
The addition of low visibility has also made it harder to appreciate the true visuals of Helldivers 2. While it’s not the best looking game around, the title has some truly beautiful vistas that are marred by fog and other weather effects.
A one-sided rule
As a mission effect, low visibility only affects players in Helldivers 2. While this is done as it’s a difficulty modifier, many players are now deeming it unfair.
“The effect would be fine if it affected enemy units too,” one player explained. “Bots have no issue firing rockets with pinpoint accuracy through fog.”
“In my experience, ‘reduced visibility’ on a bot planet meant that they could still shoot me with 100% accuracy from a mile away with rockets, but I just couldn’t see where they were at,” said another.
While this may be an intended gameplay experience, it does add extra annoyance to those already upset at the addition of low visibility. While it was awesome in moderation, its constant presence is becoming more of an annoyance.
