The current Helldivers 2 Major Order has stacked the odds against the community as they have been tasked with defending 10 planets. This comes after the Helldivers managed to kill 2 billion Terminids in just over 12 hours. With an impossible task ahead, some players think that they are being purposely set up to fail. But, some players don’t see that as being a bad thing.

U/Anonymister_audio has to taken to Reddit to discuss the current Major Order, which has tasked players with defending 10 planets. With such a huge task to complete, the Helldivers 2 community will likely fail, the Reddit user said,

“Might be an unpopular opinion, but I think it’s cool we can lose major orders. I think it’s actually pretty cool that we lost the Martale Gambit and will lose a few planets.”

This comes as the Helldivers have been tasked with defending 10 planets and so far it looks like failure is a guarantee. Super Earth released a statement to say there is an issue with tracking progress and it is unclear whether this is part of the lore or an issue with Helldivers 2.

But it does seem like the odds are stacked against players and the Major Order is designed to fail. This may not be a bad thing as it can help the story to advance in a certain way, after all, it would get boring if the heroes won every fight they had. The Reddit user continues by saying,

“I don’t know about you guys, but I’m pretty sick of how mainstream games treat it like the default that the player will win. Like if I start a game, I can reasonably expect that I’ll win with minimal effort. I find that pretty boring.

In Helldivers 2, the community smashed a challenge and was gloating. LOL devs, you thought we would need more than a day to kill 2 billion bugs. Pathetic.

So Joel got serious for a second and expertly targeted our one weakness: coordination and communication.”

Communication is something the Helldivers 2 community struggles with, but this is also partly by design. When it comes to liberating and defending planets, ideally players want to tackle them in a certain order to ensure that enemy production is slower than the rate the Helldivers are taking out the Automatons and Terminids. Unfortunately, players are usually spread too thin across multiple planets. The Reddit user continued saying,

“To have a massive and powerful community that is a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off. You can’t direct them anywhere. That’s just good tactics on Joel’s end. Divide and conquer. On the flip side of losing, can you imagine how cool the Martale Gambit would have been if successful? Players weaponizing what was a developer weapon? To the point where they would have had to manually honor it?”

If players continuously won Major Orders then the story would get boring as the Automatons and Terminids wouldn’t be seen as threats. With them being able to defeat the Helldivers, it does keep things interesting.
