Helldivers 2 player count is holding steady for now, but the future is uncertain

It has not been a fun time to be a Helldivers 2 player over the past weekend, with Sony recently announcing that all players must connect a PSN account to the game to keep playing. But, many countries in the world are unable to do this, which has led to the game being removed from 170 countries.

Despite all of the backlash, which has included hundreds of thousands of negative reviews on Steam, Helldivers 2 has managed to maintain its player count, at least for now. But, the future of Helldivers 2 remains uncertain and its success or failure will depend on whether Sony rectifies and reverts this decision. If the publishers choose to push ahead, it will cut off a large part of the world from being able to purchase and play Helldivers 2.

According to Steamdb, Helldivers 2 peaked at approximately 110,000 concurrent players today, May 5th. Typically, the figure has been around 115,000-120,000 concurrent players so although it is slightly lower, it isn’t out of the ordinary. Only time will tell as to whether this figure can be maintained, especially after Sony has removed Helldivers 2 from 170 countries and territories. This could be a temporary restriction until this controversy is figured out, but at least for now, many players across the world can’t purchase the game, and soon many won’t be able to play it.
